Summary
TechCrunch profiles Farmblox and its $2.5M seed round, led by Hyperplane with Slow Ventures, MHS Capital and Service Provider Capital.
Founder Nathan Rosenberg explains the company’s starting point: you cannot walk onto a multigenerational farm and tell farmers what to do. So Farmblox makes a solar-powered monitor that connects to the sensors farmers already use. It sends readings such as soil moisture and water waste to an AI-powered automation platform they can check from anywhere, and farmers install it themselves.
The article reports 55 farms signed in 18 months, across more than 14,000 acres. Rosenberg bootstrapped the company with his earnings as a top Minecraft developer, and Farmblox started with maple, vineyards and orchards, where sensors stay on the same trees from one harvest to the next.
Hyperplane’s Vivjan Myrto says the team grew “from their dorm room to [more than] 50 customers in 18 months,” and points to the low cost of the solar base station. Farmblox plans to use the round to reach more farms and to link its real-time data to automation that farmers can deploy themselves.
